Protect Your Facebook Business Page With New Admin Role Abilities

Manager Role on Facebook

Manager Role on Facebook

Facebook have just added the ability to allocate different roles to Admin’s on your Facebook Fan or Business Page. This means that If you are the only Admin that has the “Manager” role, then you are the only person who can add Admins and Kick them out. This protects your page from a “take over”

To protect your buisness Facebook Page from being hijacked (which was impossible to do previously), you can now “demote” other admins to lesser roles to prevent another Admin on your Facebook Page from kicking you out of your own Fan or Business Page and hijacking it.

The ability to now give other Admin officers of your page different abilities is also very useful, it makes it much safer for you to outsource to employees with different skills to help you with your social media on your Facebook Page. For instance, you may want to have one of your Admin’s to simply analyse your Facebook Page stats for you and create reports from those, but do nothing else.

This new ability to designate different roles and abilities to each Admin, makes it much easier for business owners to use outside agencies or outsource the different aspects of their Facebook Pages, without fear that outsourcing may lead to a business Page being compromised in some way. There is no limit on how many Admins you may have.

I am wondering because it does not state in black and white, is the new “manager” role the only one who will be able to actually delete a FB page? or can the other roles have the ability to delete the page.

    • Lisa, thank you for your comment. I would say that only the manager would be able to delete the page. Facebook have done this, to protect pages I’d say. I haven’t tested this but if other platforms are anything to gauge like google groups ect…this seems to be a similar layout.

  8. One thing that I have not been able to have answered for me ANYWHERE is if I am the creator of a page, and I make one of my admins a manager as well, will they be able to remove my status of manager down to Content Creator? I need this answered as soon as possible.

  9. Tanya Hardy says:

so my question is, if you get invited to take on an admin role, and you are emailed, how do you accept it and gain access to the page? ive tried going on to my fb page and liking the page but i don’t seem to be getting anywhere. please help… thanks

    • There should be a link on the email to take you to that page. Be sure that the person that added you has added the right Facebook Account. Do you have two personal accounts?

  10. An employee of one of my clients created a facebook page for the company. She was automatically assigned the Admin role of manager, but she wanted her boss to be the manager, so she changed her own role to content creator…BEFORE adding her boss as a Manager. Now, no one can add any more admins to the account! I tried the link you provided above to notify facebook you’ve lost access to your account, but there isn’t any such thing on that page, it just tells you to find the admin and ask them to make you an admin. I’ve submitted a request to facebook, but I just got the standard response. Is there anything my client can do besides give up the page and start over?

    Thanks!

    • Well that a big Whoops! I bet that isn’t the first time that has happened. When you say standard response do you mean, contact your admin ect…It’s weird that as the owner and creator of the page, she cannot change her status back to Admin. What email address is the page listed under? a company one? is it connected to a profile? Most pages are connected to someone’s profile. The profile owner should be able to do something. If the page was set up independent of a personal profile, who’s email is listed as the log in? Not sure if any of that helps.

The only other thing you can do, to try and preserve the likes on that page. Is to create another Page under the same log in, then merge them. You have to be sure that the name of the page is the same, before you have the option to do so. That way you won’t lose all the likes. Here’s a good link on how to do that. http://just-ask-kim.com/how-to-merge-facebook-pages/#.UJdlL6V3ePA
Mind you without being a manager, this may not be possible…

      • It sure was a big Whoops! It certainly speaks to the importance of hiring a professional :)

Thanks for the info about merging the pages, I know that’s a hit or miss, but I’m going to recommend it. I’m not sure whether the email she created it under is a company or personal one. It does seem like a bug that it would allow her to change her role if there wasn’t another manager assigned. They only have about 65 likes, so If she has to make a new page, she can just post to that page to like the other page.

Thanks for your input, I wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something.

  11. Hi I have a question, I only have a facebook business page and I am the only admin, why I can’t post on other page as a business page, when I do that it doesn’t show my avatar looks anonymous even if I set “use my page as” .
I have a couple of business that make a comment on my post and it shows their business page, what I’m doing wrong?:(
Any help will be really appreciated.
    Thanks!

    • It is hard for me to answer that without looking at your Page. If you don’t have a profile then you can ONLY post on other Pages as your Page. As long as your Page has a profile pic, usually your logo, that is what should show up. Is it possible that you do have a profile but are unaware of it? If you do have a profile associated with your Page you should see a tab called voice where you can switch from profile to page.

  12. Thank you so much for your answer, this is my page http://www.facebook.com/GisellasDesigns .
Where can I see my profile, I think I don’t have have it.
    Thank you again!

    • Gisella, your page looks fine to me, I can’t tell by looking at it, if there is a profile attached. When you log into Facebook do you log into an advertising section of Facebook? or do you log in and see a profile? If you don’t have a profile connected to your Page, usually what happens is you log in to an area on Facebook that is an advertising area. Facebook really don’t like users NOT to have a profile connected to their pages, and they make it really awkward. If you do have an account attached to your Page, if you have never updated it that would explain why you are seeing an anonymous profile pic. You need to switch from your profile to your page by going to settings and clicking use Facebook as your page, before going to post to other pages or liking other pages. If you also go look at your admin panel you should see if you are listed as your name as admin.

  13. Is a profile, a personal page because a don’t have one or is a personal information in the page, if so where I can update that information?
The first time I sing up it was as business page only, do you need to have a personal profile attached to it?
On the picture you have, your admin roles has your name with no avatar (first manager) in my it’s only one manager and it only shows my e-mail address. Do you think that is the problem, there in not personal information attached to it, if so where ca I update it?
    Thank you.

  14. I only have this page so there isn’t any other way I can use this page, I still click use facebook as page but it doesn’t change anything.
    Thank you.

  15. Do you think in the admin roles manager should show the name of my page instead of of the e-mail address only. :(
    Thank you.

    • Facebook really do not like people to have a Page and not a profile. They don’t prevent it, but they make it very very hard to operate a Page without a profile attached to it. To solve your problem it would be better for you to have a profile, then add that profile as Admin to your page. It looks like you added a “phantom” admin to your page. Once you have a real profile and you have added it to your page, you should be able to easily switch between profile and Page so that you can comment on other pages or like them as either profile or Page.

  16. Thank you, I will do that.

  17. Zdravi Duh says:

    Hi Leonie!

I would like to deactivate my current personal profile on FB. Question is will my business page be deactivated as well? Can I open another personal profile, make him Manager of business page and then deactivate my first personal profile? Or is there any other solutions to this problem?

Thank you very much for your help!

    Zdravi Duh

    • Your Page won’t be deactivated, but you may not be able to admin it. Your last idea will work. Create another account if you want a sort of dummy account, before you disable your personal account, then invite the dummy account to be admin after the dummy account has “liked” the page, he will show up in recent likes, then you can add, he/she as admin. Be sure you ad the dummy account as manager. Having said all of this, running a Facebook page without an active profile attached to it can be problematic if you ever want to connect or contact another profile. You can only interact with other pages, except for answering direct messages and replying to comments on your page.

  18. Hi, My friend has a Facebook fan page and we are trying to add more admins to the page but it isn’t allowing us to do so. she is the creator and manager on the page and the only admin at the time being. however the “Manager” button at the bottom of her name is in Black and not Blue which is kind of weird. i’m guessing it’s due to the fact that it is in Black that she is unable to add any admins. do you have a solution?

    • I can only guess that she is not the Manager of the page. If she got a company to set up her page for her, it maybe that there is another Manager who did not make her a Manager at the time. Contact Facebook and ask about her ownership of the Page.

  19. Great tips this will be very useful to have multiple admin roles for a business page

  20. Hi, I have a page that was registered with the organization email. Initially when we set up the FB page, we were able to add admins to the page, but now we cannot add any admins, and if we delete the ones that we have already, we can’t even reinstate them.

    Why is that?

    • Only the manager of the page can add and delete admins. Who ever set up the page should be the Manager. The manager is the only one who can allocate different roles to each admin also. The original log in, will be the manager. I hope that helps

  21. I have a business page setup and I need to add more admins to the page. How do I go about this? Do they have to like the page first? After that where do I go to make them an admin?
